OUGD603 EXTENDED PRACTICE - AMELIA CAMPAIGN - POSTER DEVELOPMENT

Poster Production
For the production of the campaign poster, Amelia provided an example poster of what she wants, and the content that needs to be included as well as the photograph. This was really helpful for me on such a short timeframe, as this created solid foundations to work from and expand upon.
Hierarchy was essential in the design of this poster, as the important information needs to really stand out first, so that people who only get a glimpse see the key content. The most prominent part of the needed to be Amelia’s photograph, so that you could recognise her in the hallways and so she’s a familiar face, as this helps connect a face to a campaign, rather than just seeing a name which is lost amongst so many other names. However, as the voting system goes off names only, the text “vote Amelia” needed to be second in prominence, so that you know who exactly is running for this role, even if you don’t catch what the role they’re running for is, you remember the name. Amelia’s manifesto points however sat more in the background, as this is something you’d read if you stopped to look at the poster, as opposed to something that’s going to catch your eye as you’re walking past.
This poster was initially created with a white background, however it was jointly thought that this may make the poster blend into it’s surroundings, so shades of pink and blue were experimented with, colours Amelia expressed an interest in using. The addition of a background colour definitely makes the post bolder, and holds the text on the page stronger too, everything feels more framed rather than floating around, creating a strong image.
The use of the text “vote, vote, vote” highlights the fact that this is a campaign, and stimulates a physical action response out of people.
