OUGD602/3 DBA STUDIO TALK AND BRIEFING

DBA (Design Business Association) came in to talk to us about what they do, and to set us a brief for us to work on over the next couple of weeks.

- DBA has people from Thompson Brand Partners, The Common Room, Arris, and Something More, as well as others.
- They give advice on salary, and legal help
- They run/take part in the design effectiveness awards
- You pay a monthly/yearly subscription to be access the benefits of the DBA

The Brief

Nootropics
- Smart drugs
- Cognitive Enhancers
- Supplements that help your life at work, in the gym, and learning
- They also slow down the brain's ageing process

- Create a new Nootropics Brand
- Who is the audience?
- Why should customers believe in and buy the product?
- What's the big idea behind the brand?
- What's the brand called?
- How does the brand connect with the audience?
- How does it make the audience feel?
- What does it say about the brand ethos?
- Does it stand out/is it memorable?
- Choose 3 products that fit into your target market (from Nootropics)
- Physical structure - what does it go in? A tub, packet, sachet etc
- There's no budget
- How does the range fit together? How do you differentiate between them?
- Think about the whole pack - voice/copy/back of pack info and bar code (they like interesting bar code designs)

Deliverables:
- 3 pack designs
- Website (homepage, flat visual)

Additional Deliverables:
- A campaign idea
- Cool stuff

- We'll work in teams of 3 or 4

- We'll present our ideas in a 20/25 minute presentation to the DBA
- Present a story of what you're doing - thought and design process. It should be a story

My understanding of the brief
I understand this brief is asking me to form a group of 3 or 4 students from my course, and collectively create our own Nootropics brand for 3 Nootropics products. We should produce pack designs for each 3 products so that they appear to be a set, but you can differentiate between the 3 products due to the subtle differences. We should also produce a website home/landing page for our Nootropics brand, to show the digital presence they could have. We can also produce additional deliverables for this brief, such as a campaign, or anything else we feel may benefit our Nootropics brand. This could be in the form of a GIF or a freebie which purchasing the Nootropics. We should present our Nootropics brand and products in a 20/25 minute presentation to DBA in a couple of weeks, showcasing our thought and design process rather than just the final product.

Aims for the brief:
- To work with people I wouldn't normally
- To experiment with packaging design as this isn't something I normally do
- To create a fun alternative to traditional drugs packaging
