OUGD603 EXTENDED PRACTICE: LAUREN BRANDING FEMININE LOGO RESEARCH & MOOD BOARDING

The main requirement for Lauren's branding and logo is that it must be feminine, so I started off by mind mapping what I thought of femininity as:

As you can see there were many different words I associated as being feminine, such as flowing, pink, dainty, gentle etc. It was thought about feminine clothing, people, objects, colours, even make up.
Following on from the femininity mind map, the design for Lauren's logo and branding should try and reflect these feminine qualities where possible, and these qualities should be taken into consideration throughout the whole design process.

I started off by looking at Lauren's work in Instagram, which is what she wanted her branding to be based off. Below are some of the images that struck me as being the most inspiration and most representational of how she has described her branding as being like. As you can see there is a lot of pink, netting, flowers, but it's also quite fun as well, it's not serious.

The next stage is to look at feminine imagery. I created some mood boards of images that I felt were feminine and were the kind of style or used the kind of imagery Lauren was after, based off her own work on Instagram and the conversation we had previously.

As you can see from the mood boards they feature a lot of pink shades, with a combination of softer style imagery and modern, bold imagery. There was a little bit of research into typography, and a lot of the typefaces found were scripted, hand writing style types, with the occasional use of serif or bold uppercase type. I also did a bit of research into flowers and petals as well as this is something that Lauren specified she would like in her branding. I think more of this research needs to be done though to get the illustrative style right.

Moving forward, initial ideas will be formed for the logo and business cards as a starting point.
