OUGD603 EXTENDED PRACTICE: LAUREN BRANDING INITIAL IDEAS

Following on from the mood boards and research, I started off by experimenting with a lot of different script and serif typefaces in different combinations and trying out different names for Lauren as well, to see which looked the most effective and was still legible.

After I had experimented, I sent these experiments to Lauren via Facebook to get her opinion on what I had done so far, to see which she preferred so that I could develop the ideas further. I also sent her images of the mood boards I had previously created to see if that was the kind of imagery she was after, to ensure I was going in the right direction.

After getting Lauren's feedback on the design work I had done so far I then set about creating some initial business card designs.

These designs were based off the typeface combination that I felt worked the best as a logo. I used pink as the main colour as requested by Lauren and also experimented with the type in pink, white and black. Different illustrations and imagery were used to add more detail to the business card designs.

I showed these business card designs to Lauren to see her opinion on what she preferred, so I could get more of an idea of what she likes and what direction she is going for her business cards:

After these digital developments I decided to go back to more traditional sketches to practice drawing flowers and petals before taking it digital.

Following on from this brief practical experiments I then tried to apply them digitally:

Taking Lauren's preferred type I created these business card ideas, expanding on from the previous designs. I experimented more so with flowers and petals in these designs, as this is something Lauren specifically requested I try and include. There definitely needs some development in flower and petal illustrations though as they aren't up to scratch at the moment.

After producing the second lot of business card designs based on the text she preferred I also showed these to Lauren to see what she thought, and I thought it was interesting how she wasn't as enthusiastic about these designs as the previous ones, so perhaps this is something to take into consideration when developing the business card designs.

I then decided to take a slightly different approach and experiment with brushes on Photoshop and a more geometric style to see what Lauren thought of these.

The feedback I got from Lauren was pretty positive, she suggested trying something similar to the geometric one but that is less harsh, using different shapes. She also said she really liked the central design as well, so I will develop these further.
