Challenges
Doors
It was difficult painting around the edges of the doors as they didn’t close properly, which meant there was a gap at the top. This also meant it made it harder to line up the design on either side of the door as well, as it didn’t lie flat. This also meant that when it rained the water collected on the top part of the door, rather than running straight down, which made it slightly problematic when painting and realising the door is wet, and water is slowly dripping down.
This was a problem I couldn’t of foreseen or planned for not knowing where my box would be or what it would look like until I started painting, and each box must have it’s own unique quirks, no one being identicle.
Painting Around...
There were several different elements which weren’t allowed to be painted. The boxes identification number, the key hole and the hinges as well. This was to ensure the box can still be identified by maintenance personnel and so that it was still be unlocked and open it’s doors as well, still fully functioning even though it has this design on it. It was slightly challenging having these elements in the way of the design, as I didn’t know where they would be until I started painting the box which meant I couldn’t really plan them into the design, but just had to work around them.
The Ground
Something which I wasn’t expecting to be challenging whilst painting was the ground. Even though the box had been primed and the cleaned and the background colours painted when I started adding the design on, the bottoms parts of the box still managed to get dust and dirt on it from the street, which made it slightly difficult when painting not to spread this around the rest of the box or for it to impact the design.
