This brief was produced on a short timescale, however it was important that this wasn’t reflected in the quality of the design. This brief also gave me to opportunity to experiment with a much more illustrative design, which was really refreshing for me as a designer, to create the final illustration by hand as opposed to digitally. This brief also gave me to opportunity to create a much more sophisticated design, as a lot of y design work tends to be fairly colourful and playful, so it was a refreshing experience to create something a little different.
I have also really enjoyed creating a piece of design which goes onto a physical product, as I was able to try out my design on the actual product to see how it would actually look, which proved really satisfying and fulfilling. This also allowed me to research into practical techniques, such as adhesives, and because of this I learnt new information which they influenced the design and production of the design, which I found really interesting.
Working for a client that was also a family member I was close to was a really enjoyable experience, as I felt more confident to be able to express my honest creative opinion without worrying about offending them, which resulted in a design I and they were really proud of, but quite different from their initial idea. This also allowed for and easier communication and sharing of design work, as I was able to get the clients feedback pretty much as and when I needed it, which really helped the fast turnaround of this brief, whilst ensuring the client was completely satisfied with the end result.
This brief also came in far under budget. The budget was less then £20, and I finished this brief and the full 40 labels for £5.36, only taking into consideration material costs. This was a really successful outcome for me, managing to get the brief so under budget, and resulted i the client being very pleased about getting such good value for money. I managed to save money on this brief by choosing an inexpensive finishing method, foiling, however only inexpensive these wine labels were produced in university. If they had been produced outside of a university environment the foil finishing would be been very expensive. I also saved money through purchasing paper elsewhere, which worked out as the cheapest option, whilst printing on the exact stock the client wanted as opposed to what was available in university.
Overall, this brief has been really refreshing to undertake, and has given me a platform to experience with techniques different to what I am used to which was very enjoyable.
