Final Publication
This is the final publication documenting the research undertaken into life in the Armed Forces. It has been bound using a multiple pamphlet stitch, securing the three signatures together firmly, whilst still allowing for the pages to lie flat once opened, and to reflect the rugged side of the Armed Forces, and life on operational tours and in the field.
The publication was produced at a standard book size, 9inch x 6inch, so as to fit really well in your hand whilst reading it, as it is meant to be read both cover to cover, and also flicking to the people you are most interested in reading about, based off the contents page, their photograph and their rank and job role.
Distribution
This publication would be found in bookshops such as Waterstone’s, independent book shops, Armed Forces careers offices, and also British Legion shops.
It isn’t meant to be widely available, but to be there in the right places where people may be interested in reading a bit about the Armed Forces, and keen to learn new information and stories.
Challenges
One of the major challenges faced whilst designing this publication was the typesetting, ensuring there were no rivers or orphans, and questions weren’t split across pages or quotes. This was challenging mainly due to the amount of body copy within the publication, as opposed to the task itself. This isn’t something that could of been avoided, however so much more time could of been spent on the typesetting to ensure it was absolutely perfect if I had months and months to get this publication perfect.
Another challenge I faced was getting the bind tight enough to ensure the signatures didn’t slide around, and to ensure a strong, firm bind preventing damage and deterioration. This was resolved mostly in the end result, due to the use of a lot of bulldog clips holding the publication firmly together and ensuring the string was as tight as possible throughout the whole binding process.
