Simple colour palette keeps this design simple and readable.
|
Paper texture illustrations combined with digital elements creates a contemporary contrast which keeps this design up to date.

Bold colours and a simple design make this map front cover really pop and stand out from the crowd.

This is much more of an aesthetic map rather than one you could actually follow. There is a lot more detail in this map as well which makes it a little more confusing, however it does make it look more full and exciting. The rounded shape of the illustrations as well also give it a very 'cutesy' appearance.

This is similar to the above example in that it is very busy with illustrations, however it manages to squeeze on street names. The colour palette is very autumny as well which creates a very distinct feel for the piece.

This is maybe slightly too child like for my own map, using primary and secondary colours in bright tones. This is something I should be careful about when choosing the colour palette so it doesn't look child like. The illustrations also also really simple though which is a great effect, for not over complicating it.

Really simple colour palette using complimenting colours which creates a very contemporary appearance. This is much more of a readable map as well with street names and clear roads as well.

It's interesting to see how Brasil is pictured, how they've picked out the key landmarks. The colour palette is also really close to what Brasil actually looks like as well, which is another thing to think about whether I go for accurate colours or completely unreal colours.

This is a similar style to what I envision for the map. Kind of textured so it looks like it's hand rendered. This also looks slightly like it's lino printed as well, which is not the effect I want, it should be more physical rather than inky.

Similar style to the above, creating the same effect however in less of an ink feel, more of a papercut feel.
This research into existing map designs and types of illustration has been really useful to see what styles are already out there in the image I have for the map to go alongside the publication.
I need to find a way to combine the bold colours and paper textures found in this research with the clean style of the publication, so that they compliment and emphasise one another, yet still accurately reflect Brasil and it's nature.
