OUGD603 EXTENDED PRACTICE - ARMED FORCES - IDEA GENERATION

Publication Mind Map
To get started on the organisation of the publication, and to understand exactly what it was being produced, what it’s purpose was, a mind map was created exploring every area of it.
Initially it was considered why it was being produced. As a way to present the research, as an interesting read for people interested in the Armed Forces, as an expression of the varied experiences within the Armed Forces for example.
The product, range, and distribution was also considered. So where would it be sold? The British Legion shops, Waterstone’s, Independent book shops? It could also be available in Armed Forces careers offices for potential new recruits to read, as a way of understanding more about the Armed Forces.
However, this publication won’t be mass produced on a grand scale, it’s not going to be something you see in every book shop you step foot into, or on Supermarket’s best sellers stalls. This is something to think about when deciding on the production, as it isn’t going to be mass produced it can be a little bit more unusual in appearance, taking on a higher quality finish as well. In relation to this, the binding method was thought about, as it’s going to be quite a lengthy publication, a binding method which works well for lengthy publication should be chosen. The multiple signature stitch binding method was one that seemed the most popular. This would also allow for interesting string choices, and a reflection of ropes used within the Armed Forces, without looking to clean cut, as perhaps you may get if you were going it perfect bind it.
It was also considered how the interviews were going to be broken up, perhaps with facts and figures of the Armed Forces. However, these facts and figures should be from extremely reliable sources, preferably from government or Armed Forces websites, to ensure misleading or incorrect information isn’t given out.
