OUGD603 EXTENDED PRACTICE - UK GREETINGS - INITIAL DEVELOPED IDEAS

Phrase Development
Part of the struggle in the initial stages of the gender symbol idea was coming up with phrases to use alongside the imagery which were all different in their own right, but that still reflected the same warm, non cheesy message.
A gigantic mind map of phrases was produced to pick from, and this really helpful to get ideas flowing and get in the zone of thinking romantically.

Developed Sketches
Following on from the idea of using gender symbols as people further sketches were created depicting them in normal scenes, from lying in a field of flowers to comically sitting on a floating slice of pizza. These reflect everyday situations to show how love is part of your normal day that creeps into everything you do with someone, rather than just on one special occasion each year.
Loads of different scenes were sketched out in order to find at least 4 that work really well, and to explore as many different settings as possible, from in nature to inside the house to in imaginary places.

Initial Digital Design
The was the first idea that was produced digitally, as a test run really to see if this idea would work when translated into a digital outcome.
The colours chosen weren’t supposed to be garish or particularly bright, but to create an uplifting and friendly, sunny appearance throughout the whole card. The people were kept with white faces so as not to identify with any race, and also to allow them to stand out against the colourful backgrounds. A bold sans serif typeface was chosen for the text to counteract with the busy background, and also to maintain the contemporary appearance.
