OUGD603 HARRISON ADVENT CALENDAR - FURTHER EXPERIMENTS

After reflecting on my initial experiments for this brief, I experimented a little bit more on type based designs, and then expanded into other areas.

This typeface is called Big Joe, and it has a much cleaner, stronger appearance than other typefaces.

The space surrounding just the type looked a little empty, so I cut out some Christmas trees to go in the background. This works really nicely in creating a contemporary, clean design, however some work needs to be done on the placement of the text and imagery, as it looks unbalanced and a bit haphazard.

Continued experiments were done into more scripted type styles, as I was determined that the initial idea was the most effective, and it was just my handwriting that wasn't up to scratch. Practice makes perfect after all! The "y" here is linked with the "C" of Christmas, to try and link the two words together more, however it doesn't look very professional as the "y" stretches on forever to reach the "C".

More experiments were done into the type, and different swash styles, to see how the space can be better filled.

Other ideas came from my attempts at drawing type not coming to anything amazing. Initially experimentations were done with winter scenes and Christmas trees, but these just looked a bit amateur. The advent calendar is square, which made me think of other square things related to Christmas, and presents was the first thing that came to mind. Experimentations were done into the kinds of bow to include, and also the pattern on the wrapping paper. Including a tag on the present also allows for the Harrison logo to be incorporated subtly. This design will be experimented with paper cut as well and photographed, with the log being added in digitally.

Reflection:
These further ideas have given me more ground to run with, especially the present idea. The bolder text also has real potential, and this brief allows you to submit more than one design as well.
