OUGD603 EXTENDED PRACTICE - VIRGIN MEDIA - CLIENT RESEARCH

About Virgin Media
“We help to create a digital world that makes good things happen: for our customers and the communities in which we operate”. They provide broadband, TV, mobile and home phone services, and have been recognised year after year for providing the fastest widely available broadband speeds. They are currently investing £3bn into Project Lightning which will ensure 17 million homes and businesses will be able to benefit from their fibre optic network.
Virgin Media have also launched the world’s first virtual mobile network, and are one of the largest fixed home phone providers in the UK and Ireland.
“Virgin Media is part of Liberty Global plc, the world’s largest international cable company. Liberty Global serves a total of 27 million customers across 14 countries; together we’re making good things happen.”

Digital for Good Programmes
The Digital for Good Programmes are aimed at the people who can benefit the most from the access to Virgin Media, who are currently disabled people and small businesses.
They are helping people through the Virgin Media Pioneers Programme and their national charity partnership with Scope. The Pioneers Programme is an online platform for entrepreneurs and small business founders to get advice, peer-to-peer support and opportunities to grow their business. Virgin Media are also collaborating with disability charity Scope in a 2 year £1 million programme to develop life-changing digital ideas for disabled people and their families.
Virgin Media also appoint Digital for Good Champions who dedicate 25% of their working day to organising and activating Digital for Good activity locally, and their partnership with Scope nationally.

Evaluation
It is clear to me that Virgin Media are really committed to helping out in the local community, and showcasing how technology can make a huge impact into someone’s life and business. They are also invested in helping out locally and nationally, on large and small scales, so this is something to take into consideration when the design is created, their support across all areas, but focusing on two specific target audiences who they have identified as most being at need of their specific support.
