OUGD603 VIRGIN MEDIA RESEARCH

The Home, by Thomas Hedger
Personal Project: "The overviewing angle allows for The Home to be appreciated holistically, with the bright colours emphasising this; this appreciation can be lost in hectic modern life, where the home acts as a pitstop, unable to be viewed as a whole. The continuity of the colour palette works to bring together this whole, yet its varying use also provides distinction between each space: downstairs, upstairs and garage, a theme which could be carried forward if I extend this project in the future."
This piece really caught my eye by the bold colour choices, and strong, vector shapes to create each scene. What make this piece work as a whole but also individually, is the colour scheme, which is simple, but with slight variations, or different colours taking focus for each room. This allows each room to stand out by itself, but when they are presented as a unit, they work together as well.

Motiv
This is a really interesting use of copper(?) pipes to form a pattern as a background for these business cards. The pipes illuminate the background, and as there are only certain shapes they can form, this creates quite a structured appearance, so it isn't all over the place. The pipes are also even in circumference, which helps this even appearance.

This piece for Smart Water Grid is really interesting, as it actually shows the different layers of the earth, or of the scene at least. Bold shapes and colours are used, which creates a very strong aesthetic, although they aren't massively vibrant or luminescent, so this creates a more friendly appearance, with a softer edge which is made more prominent with the soft texture of each element. Although the colours aren't massively vibrant, they aren't wishy washy either, so this still holds it's own.

This electrical box design by The Hungry Sandwich Club was a real inspiration for this brief, as it used bold shapes and colours to create a fun, uplifting, gender neutral design. It displayed all the characteristics that was being aimed for in this brief. The clean shapes are very effective in producing a contemporary, clean design, one that makes the surrounding area appear more up to date.
Alien City is a canvas piece of artwork I produced over 7 years ago for fun. The bold colours used in this piece really inspired the final design for this project, and again showing the world not just in it’s everyday view, as Alien City it looks at the sky as being occupied by aliens as well as the ground.
