After deciding to collaborate in Level 6 using Roots as our base, I wanted to refresh myself with what Roots actually is and what it stands for, to ensure that out brief and outcomes meets Roots key values.
This is the presentation from last year.
So basically, Roots is made up of me, Becky, Hattie and Laura from my course, and Daisy who we met through Erasmus last year and currently lives and studied in the Netherlands.
Roots manifesto is "Taking design back to its roots. Roots are all about tactile, physical designs that your client can hold. We believe that the new digital age is not the death of print. It is the rebirth of print."
- Everything we produce must be visually beautiful as well as having a meaning.
- We are environmentally conscious.
- We love to create physical material not just digital design
- We add character to our work and meaning with illustration
- Into food a lot
- Everything we do engages with out audience and creates a strong bond and experience between us and our clients
- We also create our own self initiated work
Roots focuses on analogue design such as screen printing, letterpress, relief printing. Brand identities such as packaging, logos, collateral. Illustration such as mixed media and paper cut. And experience design such as concepts and installations.
Our self initiated brief as Roots should meet all of our manifesto above, to ensure that what we say we want Roots to be like, is actually how we portray Roots in our work.
It has been really useful to refresh my memory of what Roots actually is and what it stands for, and I hope this will show in the production of ideas and work for this brief.
